Meet Jane
Listen Jane is more than a company — it's a story that started long before either of us ever set foot in a professional studio.
We're a brother and sister team raised by Grammy Award-winning recording and mix engineer Gary Chester Jr. — a respected figure in the New York music scene who worked with artists like Aretha Franklin, Eddie Vedder, and Sinéad O'Connor, and whose own father, the legendary drummer Gary Chester, played with everyone from Jim Croce to Van Morrison.Audio wasn't just something we grew up around — it was the air we breathed.
As kids we watched performances, met composers, singers, songwriters, and producers, and learned firsthand how the industry worked. Melissa took to the piano — classical and ragtime. Casey gravitated to the drums and heavy metal in the basement. Our parents called it a cacophony. We called it the beginning.
We both found our way into music and sound within advertising, fell in love with the pace of the industry, and never looked back. Over the years we collaborated on projects here and there, until 2017 when we finally made it official and created Listen Jane. The name comes from Melissa's middle name — Jane — a nickname our father gave her as a kid. It felt right.
Together or independently, we bring the same passion, work ethic, and love of great audio to everything we do.

Casey Chester is an Audio Mixologist — a creative professional who masterfully balances voice, music, and sound effects to craft sonic experiences that stick. A Berklee College of Music alumnus, Casey hit the ground running and never looked back.
His early career took him through top music houses before landing at Michael Levine Music — where everything clicked. It was here that Casey discovered true sound design, working with rare instruments and unconventional techniques that most engineers never encounter. The studio was also on the cutting edge of digital audio, among the first to use it at a professional level. That combination of artistry and innovation shaped the sound of major brands like Kodak, Nerf, Kit Kat, and Mitsubishi.
He then stepped into a completely different world at the award-winning McHale Barone, where he quickly discovered that radio is its own beast. Here Casey developed a new set of skills — directing talent, working with comedy scripts, and understanding the unique art of making every second of a radio spot count. It was a creative playground that produced spots for heavyweights like Heineken, AT&T, Mercedes, and Mountain Dew.
With over three decades of experience, Casey launched Audible Playground Inc., a remote-forward studio built on one simple vision: I can be wherever you need me to be. With a studio outside NYC, a mobile setup, and relationships with studios across the city, he gave clients flexibility without sacrificing quality.
As brands began licensing major artists, Casey became a go-to for music editing — always delivering the perfect cut in time for that big presentation. In the meantime, his agency and brand roster kept growing, adding United Airlines, US Marines, and Instagram to the mix. He also developed direct client relationships, including GoFundMe. One standout moment was the Vaseline Mended Murals project — you can check it out on our work page.
In 2017, Casey joined forces with his sister Melissa, and together they became Listen Jane — a powerhouse sibling team bringing decades of combined experience to every project.

Melissa Chester is an executive music producer with deep roots in the industry and a finely tuned ear shaped by decades of high-level creative work. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, she began her career interning at recording studios and music houses before quickly rising through the ranks—first at a leading music house and later at BBDO, one of the world’s most respected creative agencies—where she spent the core of her career.
Melissa has operated at the highest levels of the industry, negotiating music licenses with artists such as Calvin Harris, Lionel Richie, Beck, and Lou Reed for global campaigns, including the Olympics and the Masters. She has also collaborated closely with legendary talents like Willie Nelson and Sia.
Her work has helped shape iconic brands including AT&T, M&M’s, Campbell’s, Visa, and Snickers. She has partnered with composers and artists around the world, bringing a global perspective to every project, and is especially proud of her pro bono contributions to Autism Speaks.
Her award-winning work has been recognized at Cannes Lions, the Clio Awards, London International Awards, the ADDYs, the ANDYs, The New York Festivals, and the Radio Mercury Awards, and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal.
